About the Partick Glasgow Group
We meet in Cafe Simon which is behind the church. We have just celebrated our 10th Anniversary and enjoyed a day out at Schoenstatt Retreat centre
We were delighted that our Margaret Burke, was pictured in the Summer edition of ‘Partick People’ as well as a little article.
Recent News
Our group continues to enjoy varied meetings, where we share all that touches our lives. We are blessed to have so many talented members. Liz O’Rourke, an embroideress ‘par excellance’, exhibiting her work several times. She has contributed her work to Ronald McDonald House (for terminal sick children). She will meet with other ‘crafty Scots’ at Easter, when she visits St Andrew’s. At Notre Dame Primary School she takes the Music Ministry. She is involved with other community projects.
Liz and Pat McCavan along with Carol-Anne Lynn are all members of The Scottish Handicraft Club. As we have seen already, Margaret Burke is a knitter supreme, who like the others contributes to the local community in so many ways.
Simon Peter group visited the RC Cathedral of St Mirin where a short Marian service was held at Our Lady’s altar. Even though it was raining, the group went on to visit St Mirin’s (Church of Scotland) which is a magnificent building – even in the rain and there received a lovely warm welcome.
The Mary Barbour Award
We are so delighted that the work of Margaret Burke, a very precious member, has received The Mary Barbour Award, for her work in the Partick community.
As a founding member of the Friends of Mansfield Park, Margaret has campaigned to transform a neglected site, within Partick, into a vibrant area for the enjoyment of all the local community.
The area now houses The Farmers Market, Sports Facilities, Children’s Play Area, an Events Area and green spaces for everyone to enjoy. Margaret is committed to ensuring the area is well maintained and takes part in weekly inspections with Land and Enviromental services. She is determined to ensure that the area remains at the heart of the local community.
