About the Southsea Group
We generally have a guest speaker to speak for three quarters of an hour on subjects that are sacred or secular but always in the vein of a reputable charity. This year for instance we have a speaker from the Life Group and a talk on Fatima and ‘Personal Choice’ that gives advice for older folk.
After the guest speaker is welcomed, a chosen hymn is sung generally appropriate to the church season and then the Life Ascending prayer is said and then over to the guest speaker for up to 45 minutes. At the end of the talk the speaker is thanked, tea is served question and answer carry on until no later that 3:30pm when the meeting starts again.
A pad and pen is sent round for any prayer request and also the collection bag is sent round at the appropriate time. Eileen and I then pass on any information, letters and news. From here we have our members contributions of spiritual readings and Eileen and I prepare some as well.
We then pray for all those on the prayer list and finish with a hymn, the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be. Our members enjoy chatting for a while at the end of the meeting. Everyone helps to put chairs and tables away and help with kitchen tidy up. Hymn books are collected and car boot loaded with pots and pans etc then we lock up the hall and depart!
