About the Upper Norwood Group
We meet in our parish Upper Room. We are fortunate as it has the atmosphere of a welcoming, club room. The little open kitchen space means that those making tea do not miss out on any action.
Time spent in conversation before we start is always valuable and this is a time to catch up and relax before we light the candle and pray. A hymn is chosen to link with the topic of the day and then someone will read from the Gospels, The Psalms or other Spiritual reading. We often make use of the Canadian Ascending Life programmes.
We invited Mrs Phil Canning a member of the Crystal Palace Community Church, to tell our members about The Wodside Christian Bereavement Group.
Our Upper Norwood members thought it would be good to invite our Virgo Fidelis parishioners to the event; advertising in the parish newsletter. In this way we felt it would offer our parishioners an opportunity to listen to Phil, as well as possibly gaining some new members.
A lady in the parish, who had been suffering grief for six months, came to hear about the bereavement group, praying they might help her. It was very enlightening to listen to the variety of ways all the councillors reach out to help those in grief. Whether the person is young or old and no matter what the situation, the Christian love , care and help shown was wonderful.
We felt this had been very worthwhile and getting an outside speaker added variety to our meeting.
A Trip to the Cinema
As our parish priest, Fr James, had been recommending our parishioners see a particular film, Silence, we thought we would use our London bus passes and enjoy an outing. It proved to be an enjoyable afternoon and made a pleasant change for everyone.
