Our 40th Anniversary!
Read our history in the Spring 2020 Journal
Our Spring Journal 2022 (section on Publications), makes reference to Pope Francis words, urging the elderly to be open to ‘new invitations’.
“The Lord does not entrust his talents only to the young and the strong. He has talents for everyone, made to fit each person, the elderly too… The previous skills of active life lose their constraint and become resources to be given away: teaching, advising, building, caring, listening… preferably in favour of the most disadvantaged who cannot afford any learning or who are abandoned in their loneliness.” General Audience May 2022
Life Ascending is a Catholic movement of the Church, open to all men and women who have reached a ‘certain age’ in life. Encouraging them to be messengers of peace and calm, particularly for those who are still unsure and too fearful to go out and about once more. Our blessed Lord is with us and by studying His Holy Word, together, we can find answers to the difficulties and problems that face us and what He is asking of us at this stage of life.

Thank you very much for this wonderful Spring Journal 2020. I allowed myself to send it to Monique Bodhuin, president of VMI, to all members of the executive committee as well as to the European members of the VMI co-ordination. What beautiful memories and testimonies of the 40 years of existence of your movement! With great emotion I saw on a photo Margaret Snowdon with whom I had the great pleasure of working for a few years. You have done a wonderful job of memory. Please also transmit all my congratulations to your son for the graphic design.

I hope and trust that this 40th Anniversary celebration is not only a time of joy but also a time of deepened enthusiasm for the gifts brought by ‘Life Ascending’ and for sharing those gifts with many more. I assure you of my prayers and blessing at this time.
H.E. Cardinal Vincent Nichols Archbishop of Westminster (Spring Journal page 23)
The Cardinal's message
Whilst still an auxiliary bishop in the Westminster diocese, I had been introduced to Ascent by Sr Mary Conner, a member of the Congregation of Christian Education, who had inspired a thriving group in her local parish. The experience convinced me of its rich possibilities. Here was a movement, which fitted perfectly for persons of faith, with plenty of life’s experience, which would enable them to deepen their prayer life and love for the scriptures within the context of nourishing and consoling friendships.

40th Anniversary
We are very sad and shocked by what happened yesterday not far from Westminster.
We do share the suffering and the grief of the families who lost a beloved relative or friend.
We also share the concern of the families who had someone injured and wish all of them a quick recovery.
Regarding this dramatic event, the Mouvement Chrétien des Retraités send to you Ross and to all members of Life Ascending and to all English people, the expression of our deep compassion.
Our eyes are crying, our heart is « bleeding », our spirit is indignant but hate should not triumph.
Let us pray together with all the faithful; let the prayers be the expression of our will, together with all men and women to fight in order to get tolerance and peace in our world.

Dr Micha Jazz writes a little reflection each day on the Premier Christianity web site. He writes with a great human understanding as a Christian living in this complex world of ours. His reflection on "When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer." Psalm 94:19 for 18 April is comforting.Premier Christianity

Please thank the Life Ascending Planning Team for the get-well card they all signed and sent to me from their meeting on 16th March at Wistaston. It is good to know you have many friends and supporters in times of distress. God bless you in your fraternal(motherly or sisterly) care for each one of whose life is ascending. With love and every good wish

We believe our greatest calling is to reach out to our forgotten seniors. Those who can no longer gather for various reasons. For many, receipt of our Journal by post or email is the only connection with people of Faith, they advise. Sometimes the only connection for the lonely. Outreach to the forgotten, lonely is of importance.
We continue to seek them out and offer them the Word of God in this, the 3rd stage of life.
Please pray for us on this endeavor. Annette Dutrisac, Ascending Life, Canada

Many people have not got the time or the energy to do much more than get through the day, care for their families and their own homes. But I think that most of us could find close at hand an old or a sick person, whom we can visit once in a while. From To be a Pilgrim

I would like to inform you that over £50,000 has now been raised in aid of the UK-registered charity ‘Iraqi Christians In Need’ (www.icin.org.uk) through piano and organ recitals. Thank you for your help so far in raising awareness of the charity's work.

I have never joined anything in my life but I am so thankful I am now an Life Ascending member. The meetings have helped deepen my faith and I now think so much more about God.
