Be not afraid. Confidence embodies faith and trust and a feeling of assurance. There are moments in our lives when we are called upon to make a decision and the quality of that decision is the same for all; it is founded on something deeper than the whims and attitudes of a changing society. As christians it is founded on the firm belief that God will show us the way if we turn to Him. St John assures us “we have courage in God’s presence because we are sure that He hears us, if we ask Him anything that is according to His will”.
We can face anything with Christ. He transforms us by His love and reassures us. Pope St John Paul 11 loved these words “Be not afraid” and he took every opportunity of reminding us of the words of Jesus. In his book ‘Crossing the Threshold of Hope’ he explains how Christ “spared no effort in preparing His disciples for every type of external and internal difficulty……at the same time however, He reveals that His demands never exceed man or women’s abilities. As long as they accept these demands with an attitude of faith, they will find that God’s grace never fails to give the necessary strength to meet these demands”.
We pray for Ross, who has put himself forward to be our next President. We pray that with our blessed Lord’s help and our support, he will be able to meet with a confident heart, all the challenges that lie ahead of him.
Dear Jesus, help me to be confident. Give me courage when I feel low. Strengthen my faith in You, with hope in Your promises and with love for Your most Holy Will.
