About the Maidstone Group
The Maidstone group started life in 1980. Edward McCaffrey was a pious man, full of zeal for this new movement which was just springing to life in this country. When Edward’s health failed, Mrs Pat Fairley took over the group and then in 1997 Mrs Angela Hunter became the group leader, greatly assisted by her husband Keith. Over the years Angela has brought happiness and a sense of purpose to many, many souls through her very special charisma and dedication. The members truly love coming together for prayer, discussion and sharing as well as enjoying outings. One of the group’s highlights is their Christmas lunch. Over the past few years this has been celebrated in the Refectory at Aylesford Priory, with a few invited guests.
Angela’s health has suffered over the years and in recent times her mobility has prevented her from actively taking part in many things. Bearing this in mind, Angela has decided that she must hand her responsibilities to someone else. After 19 years as group leader, Angela fully deserves a rest. She has never complained and has continued to smile and keep the St Francis group together. Prayer is needed to find someone to follow Angela as the group, now in its 36th year is too precious to fold.
May Our Lord bless Angela abundantly for her generous and loving heart and may He be close to Keith and Angela as they endeavour to take life at a calmer pace.
