Many groups will be breaking up for the Summer but maybe will still meet for a little treat and for members to have something to look forward to. An outing somewhere or afternoon tea, means so much to those who rarely get out. Please do let us know, either by letter, email or through this web site what your group has recently been discussing, where you have been and what speakers have you enjoyed. We would love to receive recent photos you have taken that you know others would enjoy seeing.
Many groups I belong to close for the month of August, but Hallam Ascent usually has a social event or two. A few weeks ago a number of us filled two cars and went for a picnic. We went to the Derwent Dams nearby in the Peak District. It is one of the places where the 617 Squadron practiced for the Dambusters Raid. There is a car park and lots of picnic tables so we had our picnic and then the more able of us enjoyed a walk whilst the others enjoyed a chat.
Yesterday we had a Cream Tea. Only 17 of our members were there, but visitors flooded in from ours and neighbouring parishes so there were 38 people in all. We asked for £5 for each cream tea and we had a Bring and Buy Table as we’ve found that people are very generous when we are raising money for charity. Part of it augments our funds so that we can pay for the occasional speaker and help put on social events, but we give a generous donation to our charity of the year.
Thank you John. The Cream Tea sounded great and a good fund raiser. It is very interesting to hear about the different ways groups socialise and important to share with one another, new ideas.
Looking forward to receiving contributions from other groups
